There are many famous visitor attractions within a 10 mile radius:  North York Moors Railway, Castle Howard, Nunnington Hall, Rievaulx Abbey, Helmsley Castle and Walled Garden (pictured above) and Duncombe Park and the National Centre for Birds of Prey, to name a few.  A little further afield, Dalby Forest is a 20 minutes drive and the historic city of York is around 40 minutes away by car, as is the Yorkshire coast. The well known resorts of Scarborough and Whitby are as popular as ever, but the quieter Sands End, Cayton Bay and Robin Hood's Bay are also lovely.

Click here for a comprehensive guide to the many attractions in the North York Moors National Park - the 2020 edition of 'Out and About' is really worth a look.

Eating Out
There are lots of great pubs and restaurants in the area: several in the Good Pub Guide (which we have a copy of, and you are free to use) within five miles. Most of them will be open from 17 May. The Michelin starred Star Inn at Harome is just three miles away and there are excellent pubs at
Appleton le Moors (The Moors Inn),
Sinnington (Fox and Hounds),
Wombleton (The Plough Inn) Wednesday-Sunday,
Gillamoor (The Royal Oak) and
Ampleforth (The White Swan).
For all of these we recommend booking a table well in advance. We are happy to make personal recommendations, to suit your preferences.

Have a look a the Events and Activities tab and our Facebook page for news and information on what's on in the next few months.
